Bought a new phone? The accessories you actually need
A new phone is exciting until you open the box and find a cable and nothing else. Here is the short list of what most people actually need — and how to pick the right version for your phone.
1. A charger
Apple stopped putting a charger in the box with the iPhone 12, and Samsung with the Galaxy S21; many newer Galaxy A phones also come without one. 2. A spare cable
Keep one cable by the bed and one in the bag. For fast charging, use USB-C to USB-C — or USB-C to Lightning for iPhone 8–14 — rated 3A or more.
3. Something to listen with
Many new phones have no 3.5mm headphone jack. Take a Type-C handsfree that plugs into the charging port, or wireless earbuds that work with any phone.
4. A power bank

5. A car charger
